ECOOP-PLOS 2004ECOOP Workshop onProgramming Languages and Operating Systems WORKSHOP RESULTSThe aim of this workshop was to provide a highly interactive forum for researchers and practitioners working in the domain of programming languages and operating systems. It was a successful event with 22 participants. The workshop started off with the presentation of position papers participants had submitted. Each presentation was followed by a 10 minutes discussion slot. The second half of the workshop day consisted of two collaborative work sessions in the afternoon. Workshop participants formed three expert groups to discuss research questions in their particular area of interest:
In a first phase each group was asked to write down questions for the members of the two other groups. This was a chance to ask "killer questions" like "How to convince the OS community and the industry that this is the way to go?" or simply things that participants always wanted to know like "What is a Java OS?". In the second phase the questions for each group were collected and the groups had to discuss the topics and agree on answers. At the end of the workshop the questions and answers were presented and discussed by a panel. A short summary of questions and the answers of each expert group can be downloaded here: The workshop organizers would like to thank all program committee members and workshop participants for helping us to make PLOS 2004 a unique and successful workshop. |
