Lecture: Why are Disruptive Memory Technologies relevant for the SAP HANA database?

Norman May (SAP)

Lecture slides

The genesis of the SAP HANA database more than a decade ago is tightly related to the use of modern hardware like multi-core systems and in-memory query processing. In its evolution SAP HANA continuously leveraged modern memory technologies including multi-socket scale-up systems with dozens of TB of main memory or non-volatile memory. We outline the challenges related to these technologies in real-world setups. Finally, we outline the opportunities related to CXL-attached memory extensions or memory pools.
